Who Is This Guy Anyway?

I'm Alec LaLonde, your esteemed weblog author. I'm old and a Software Engineer for Tomax here in Salt Lake City, UT.

Me
Climbing in Maple Canyon, UT

I'm from Northern New York, about 10 miles southeast of Lowville, and grew up playing in the woods with my brother. Whether it was soccer, corkball, basketball, cross-country skiing, sledding, or just building treehouses we spent a lot of time having fun outside. This hasn't really changed, except my activities have "graduated" to skiing, climbing, and hiking in the mountains around Salt Lake City.

I attended the Rochester Institute of Technology for my undergraduate degree in Computer Science. After graduating early I bummed around for a bit, soon realizing that after five years in western NY I needed a change. Driving five hours north to the Adirondacks every weekend was getting a bit old, and due to the general lack of vertical relief I moved out to Salt Lake City. And honestly, I haven't looked back. I'm still infatuated with Northern Utah -- its massively prominent peaks (within minutes of the city), ridiculously light and deep snow, and stellar climbing will likely keep me here for awhile.

This blog originated as a means of keeping in touch with friends and family during my time abroad in college. However, it's lived on over the years, and still serves as the preferred means of telling my tales of travel, adventure, and occasional debauchery (sometimes all combined), with a good ol' rant thrown in here and there.

A blog isn't a blog without comments, so don't be afraid to contribute. Or, just get in touch with me at my Gmail address (alec.lalonde). Enjoy!
