Who Is This Guy Anyway?
I'm Alec LaLonde, your esteemed weblog author. I'm old and a Software Engineer for Tomax here in Salt Lake City, UT. By day I write Java code both for our customers and our company's software infrastructure, and by night I fight crime on the dangerous streets of Gotham. Err, rather I climb at the gym, ski at Brighton, or go out on the town to see a show or have a few beers.

I grew up in Northern New York, about 10 miles SE of Lowville, and went to the Rochester Institute of Technology for my undergraduate degree. After five years in western NY I got fed up with its general lack of vertical relief, and in May 2007 moved to Salt Lake City. I haven't looked back since. I'm convinced that the quality, proximity and sheer diversity of outdoor activities here can't be matched anywhere else in the country, and I stand by that. During certain days of the year it's possible to go ice climbing, rock climbing and skiing in a given day and the area has world-class opportunities for all three.
Playing in the outdoors is a huge part of my life, especially in the winter when everyone else hunkers down into hibernation. While most people are whining about the cold and snow, I'm out in the elements skiing, ice climbing and mountaineering.
